Below is a selection of testimonials from clients of fishing trips off the waters of Newport RI and Southern New England.

Josh Wenker and I (Bud Wilder) met Captain Eric Thomas in Portsmouth, R.I. on the morning of June 22 ,2012. We had won a charter trip aboard the Teezer at the May RISAA meeting.

I do not know how these charter captains pick the right day for a trip, but this one a great one.

Captain Eric Thomas is a teacher in Newport, R.I. of six grade math and the Captain of the Teezer. He specializes in fly fishing and light tackle fishing. Captain Eric prefers top water action and excels in educating his clients in something new. Captain Eric has been chartering for 15 years but this was his first charter with RISAA.

The Teezer is a 19 foot Mako customized center console boat specially modified to provide a secure and efficient fishing platform. The boat is trailered which provides many opportunities as far as fishing areas. Captain Eric specializes on Narragansett Bay, Newport, Point Judith, Block Island, Westerly, Watch Hill and the Sakonnet River.

We launched the boat off the beach into the Sakonnet River. Launching a boat from a beach in Rhode Island was a first for me. I have launched a boat from a beach many times in Florida, but never up north. We were off in no time.

Captain Eric really knows his fishing spots. We stopped at one spot just to get us used to the fishing style and we were off to a hot spot. The day was great, a light wind and flat seas. As we stopped at the first hot spot, we could see the fish working on the surface. At first we could not see what they were hitting. We made a few casts and we were on fish. Josh really turned out to be the Bluefish King of the day.

We watch a good size striper chase a small bluefish around, hit it with it’s tail and eat it right up. We moved to a couple of hot spots during the morning and ended up at second beach of of Newport. The action was hot all day. You could watch the fish go after, hit, miss, chase and get hooked right in front of us. The water was very clear and you could see the fish following the hooked fish all the wall to the boat. If you hooked a fish and he broke off another would grab the lure before you knew it. At one point, Josh had two bluefish on the same lure at the same time, one on the front hook and one on the back hook. The fish were fighting over themselves.

The end count is hard to say with all the action. We did return with a striper each and about eight good size bluefish. The largest striper was 32 inches long. The largest bluefish was 32 inches long at about 12 pounds. Most of the bluefish were in the 8 to 12 pound range. We caught at least 5 stripers and about 30 to 40 bluefish. We were going to try for some fluke but there was not enough drift.

Josh and I had a great trip with Captain Eric aboard the Teezer. We would recommend anyone looking for some hot topwater action to book Captain Eric Thomas on the Teezer.

Thank you to Captain Eric for a phenomenol fishing trip.

Hi Eric,
Just a quick note to thank you for the trip on Wednesday. Gregory and I had an exceptional time. We arrived home late in the afternoon and were both quite sore–he finally admitted that after fighting that bass he wasn’t sure if he could’ve brought in one more fish!!! He left Thursday to return to Ft. Wainwright and couldn’t stop talking about that fish of a lifetime–he plans to get a fiberglass replica mount–let me know if you know a good taxidermy guy who does bass.

One final note, I found the lure. Trust me, NO ONE will ever know where I got it or it’s name. Two question’s I have for you: is the color bone or white and did we use 7″ or 9″.
Once again, Eric, thanks for a great and very memorable day. I will be forwarding a few pictures to you.

Best Wishes,
Don Woods

I have been fishing with Captain Eric Thomas for more than 15 years. We have gone out 8 to 10 times a season from late May to mid October under almost any conditions. We started fly fishing, but in recent years have migrated to light tackle top water casting for the most part

I have gone out by myself and with highly experienced friends as well as young grandchildren, and each trip has been geared to make the experience a pleasurable one for every one on board(no grandchild ever caught less than 3 scup). Eric is a skilled and enthusiastic teacher and does his best to insure that the fishing is appropriate to party on board. He takes as much pleasure in bringing fishermen to breaking fish, as he does when they bring fish to the boat.
Eric has an intimate knowledge of the reefs and rocks below the surface of the bay and the coast off Newport. While he can’t guarantee catching large stripers or hard tails later in the season(it is fishing after all),he knows what fish are in the area and where they have been found in the last few days. I have found the chances of success are excellent.
I can highly recommend the services of Captain Eric Thomas.

Thank you, Henry

early season bluefish in bay

I had the best fishing trip of my life thanks to the crew and Capt Eric. His knowledge of the waters and tips on fishing allowed me to catch large striped bass and several large blue fish. We fished all day and caught fish all day. This is what fishing is all about but when your with Eric you should call it catching not fishing.

Thank you Gary
